Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said on Friday that the military operation in Donbass is costing $5-7 million a day, and that their partners are not providing financial aid for military spending.

"One day of the war costs the Ukrainian budget $5-7 million. We don’t receive money from anyone for military needs," Yatsenyuk said during a briefing following his meeting with German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Kiev.

He added that since the ceasefire was declared in eastern Ukraine, 80 Kiev soldiers have been killed and 400 more injured.

Yatsenyuk pointed out that Germany decided to unveil a €500 million loan for Kiev to modernize the country’s energy system and to restore the Donbass region.

According to him, Germany is one the leaders in energy efficiency technologies and German companies will be involved in the modernization.

The Ukrainian government plans to spend nearly $4 billion for military and defense needs in 2015. According to the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, the military budget for 2015 is about $2 billion (2.7 percent of GDP), 1.7 times more than in 2014.

In May, ten Ukrainian defense and security services asked the government to unveil an additional $769 million due to the increase of the  number of personnel.

Earlier this week, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko signed into law the country’s new national security strategy. Its implementation will take up funding of at least 5 percent of GDP per year.

In April 2014, Kiev launched a military operation in the country’s east against Donbass independence supporters who opposed the new coup-installed government. According to the latest UN data, more than 6,200 people were killed in the conflict zone.
