Ukrainian army continues firing at Lysychansk. Late in the evening on July 19 the outskirts of the city were hit with a prohibited weapon, phosphorus bombs. Earlier this weapon had been used against Slavyansk, where several militiamen had been heavily damaged by phosphorus fire.

Using weapons containing white phosphorus against military targets located within or near populated areas is prohibited for use by international agreements (Protocol III to the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons (en)).
Weapons containing white phosphorus spread the ignited substance with the combustion temperature exceeding 800 degrees Celsius.
Characteristic for phosphorus bomb use are charred organic tissues with cloths left intact, and lungs burnt off in case of inhalation of the burning mixture.
