Summary of hostilities in Novorossia on December, 18

On December 18, US President Barack Obama signed the bill "Act on support of Ukraine 2014", which gives the head of state the right to provide lethal military assistance to Ukraine and introduce new sanctions against Russia. It is specified that the document is a recommendation, but given the situation, the Obama's decision to uphold the law can mean the beginning of a new round of war in Donbass and may lead to intensified fighting in Novorossia.

The night of December 17 to 18 passed quietly in Donetsk, two explosions and the work of small arms were heard on the outskirts of the Kuibyshevsky district around noon. Probably AFN units carried out counter-sabotage operation. During the day two cases of ceasefire violation by Ukrainian security forces were recorded: at 13:15 and 15:50 DPR Defense Ministry units positions located in the vicinity of the airport in Donetsk were fired with small arms and grenades.

Hostilities in LPR

On December 18 Ukrainian security forces violated ceasefire in Lugansk People's Republic. As the LPR People's Militia reported, howitzer artillery fire was conducted from the village Kondrashovka (Stanitsa-Luganskaya district) on the outskirts of the village Vesyolenkoye.

Situation remained uneasy in Slavyanoserbsk area where AFU fired LPR positions with mortars between settlements Prishib and Smeloye. Ukrainian army also continues to fire on positions of LPR near the town of Schastye.


Another Russian Emergencies Ministry convoy headed from Noginsk to the Rostov region carrying humanitarian aid to Lugansk and Donetsk People's Republics. As stated by head of the department of fire and rescue forces Alexander Agafonov when sending the column, in addition to the main necessary cargo trucks will deliver Christmas gifts to Donbass, which were collected in all regions of Russia. The tenth humanitarian convoy for Donbass will include more than 20 tons of medical supplies. IL-76 with medical supplies on board landed in Rostov-on-Don from the airfield Ramenskoye near Moscow. This humanitarian aid will be reloaded to the MOE vehicles in the Rostov region, which will be part of the tenth humanitarian column for Donbass. Tenth humanitarian convoy will consist of more than 170 trucks to deliver more than 1.4 thousand tons of humanitarian aid to Lugansk and Donetsk, including more than 470 tons of Christmas gifts. The column will be fully formed by the weekend.
